Do you remember our English library?

British Council Cyprus had the best English library in the island back in 1940’s with over four thousand volumes and 2,600 borrowings. It was a Circulating library, so managed that fresh reading material was always available at the five institutes of the island.

The library of the British Institute, which was said to be ‘one of the finest libraries in the Middle East’ storing at that time 16,000 books, was completely destroyed during a fire in 1955.

Even though our library ceased to function physically, it has evolved and is now widely available in a digital form through our TeachingEnglish - British Council and LearnEnglish – British Council online portals.
