The British Council has been working with Cyprus since 1940. In 2020 we are marking this 80th anniversary with a series of events celebrating cultural relations and exchange between the UK and Cyprus. So, in the context of this year’s celebrations in Cyprus, the British Council collaborates with Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation in delivering World Voice - Melodies from all over the world! The program is certified by the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth.
Melodies and rhythms from different parts of the world provide the background to this workshop. The children gain a global perspective by singing traditional songs from various countries in a variety of languages. Cyprus is the last destination in our music journey as we venture into an alternative approach of Cypriot songs by means of specially designed activities.
Participants will get to learn traditional Cypriot rhythms, sing excerpts from well-known traditional compositions and compare those to rhythms from other countries. The objective of the workshop is to offer children musical stimuli from various parts of the world, learn interesting information on Cyprus and the other countries/destinations through the songs, whilst being incorporated into a group of equal partners.
